About the Research

Dobrodiy Club conducted a comprehensive nationwide study on mentorship.
It uncovers the root causes and challenges the stereotypes that hinder the development of mentorship in Ukraine.

These findings serve as a foundation for meaningful improvements in support programs for children with lived experience, as well as a basis for new strategies and impact-driven solutions.

The research was carried out with the support of UNICEF Ukraine.

Research Objectives

To test hypotheses related to mentorship and societal biases toward children with lived experience

To assess the public’s readiness to support children in mentorship-based formats

To outline key challenges within the public, civic, and governmental sectors

To provide up-to-date data for professionals, initiatives, and organizations working with these children

To identify the barriers Ukrainians face in participating in mentorship programs

Mentorship is perhaps the only real chance for teenagers with lived experience to have a safe adult by their side — especially since their chances of being adopted are virtually zero. There is clear public support in Ukraine for effective assistance to these children. That’s why we believe that as soon as mentorship becomes an accessible and well-understood public service, thousands of teenagers will receive the support they need. This support will serve as the foundation for an alternative, positive scenario for their future — breaking free from poverty and other difficult circumstances. The research and pilot results from Dobrodiy Club will become a key element in shaping effective and actionable tools for building a national mentorship system.

Дуже дякую Клубу Добродіїв за те, що провели дослідження і в тому числі проєкт щодо наставництва. Тому що для нас, як для Координаційного центру з розвитку сімейного виховання та догляду дітей, підлітки та молодь, яка зараз перебуває в інституційній системі, дуже важливі. Більшість дітей в інтернатах — це діти старшого віку. Дітей від 10-13 років дуже рідко хочуть усиновлювати і вони залишаються сам на сам з тим, щоб вибудувати стосунки, зрозуміти як використовувати кошти, що їх чекає поза межами закладу. Реформа — це довготривалий процес, це марафон. На цьому шляху є підлітки, які вийдуть з системи самостійно і для них дуже важливо мати значимого дорослого. Людину, яка допоможе та підтримає на цьому шляху.
