Adolescence is characterized by changes that occur both externally and internally. It’s a time of development, changing authority figures, and searching for answers to questions like: “What do I want?”, “Where should I go?”. Children need to determine their future and make responsible decisions about their further life. In addition to this already difficult stage, uncertainty due to war and constant threats to life cause additional stress and anxiety, which put serious pressure on the psychological health of young people.
At “Place of Power” a safe space for teenagers from the “Benefactors Club,” many psychological support programs operate: art therapy, discussion clubs, social games, and creative activities.
“Children are an extremely vulnerable part of society. They usually experience any crisis situations quite acutely. They can’t always understand what’s happening with their inner world, how to cope with it, and whether their feelings are normal. At Place of Power, they can receive support, learn to deal with emotions, and understand themselves. During therapeutic sessions, teenagers will have the opportunity in the supportive atmosphere of the group to explore the world of their emotions, identify their strengths and weaknesses, learn to process anxiety and fear, making them their allies,” shared psychologist Anna Razumova.
Therapy positively affects children who have suffered from war. It becomes easier and clearer for them to live through different traumatic experiences in life, such as: losing a family member, forced relocation, separation from friends. At Place of Power, they can distract themselves from the horrors of war and receive support from qualified psychologists.
“Therapeutic groups are places where children can feel safety, acceptance, get to know themselves better, learn about the experiences of others, and share their own. They are that point of support that is so needed in our turbulent times and such a difficult period in a teenager’s life,” notes psychologist Victoria Derkach.
Let’s help 12 children of war overcome their own experiences and negative emotions in a therapeutic group. To do this, we need to raise 50,000 hryvnias — this will give them the opportunity to work through their conditions with psychologists for 3 months. Each of your donations is significant and will help implement this noble mission.
